Bikers skid and fall, lorry runs over rider, one killed in Howrah

A fatal accident on National Highway 16 near Howrah’s Kona High Road intersection led to unrest, with multiple trucks and a traffic booth vandalized. The incident occurred under Liluah police station limits when two bikers skidded and fell while traveling from Salap to Jagadishpur. A lorry coming from behind fatally ran over 50-year-old Noor Mohammad Laskar, a resident of Jagadishpur, while his companion sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Following the accident, locals gathered at the spot and vandalized passing trucks and a traffic booth, disrupting movement on the busy highway. Police and RAF personnel were deployed to control the situation and restore order. Authorities confirmed that investigations are underway, and efforts are being made to identify those involved in the vandalism.

Police sources stated that the accident happened near a key junction with heavy traffic flow. The area remains under strict surveillance to prevent further unrest. Officials are in talks with local representatives to address concerns related to road safety and traffic management in the region.
